The old primary school which was constructed in 1927 based on architect's D.Kallias plans, houses nowadays Crete's Open University and attracts visitors' interest for its architecture.
In Arhanes it is worth visiting three museums:
Archaeological museum In a restored building, visitors can admire the area's archaeological findings, which were discovered during the excavations around the village (Fourni, Anemospilia, Vathypetro, Tourkogeitonia).
Folklor museum It is housed in a restored neoclassical building and includes a wide variety of stuffs that reflects the local traditions and customs.
Museum of Agricultural History and Tradition It includes important traditional and historical elements concerning the last two centuries, mainly of the Second World War.
